Fr Al-Manār est une revue arabe réformiste dont l’influence sera fondamentale. Ses principaux objectifs étaient d’examiner la décadence des institutions politiques musulmanes, de souligner le danger du colonialisme européen dans le monde musulman et de promouvoir l’idée que l’Islam était compatible avec la modernité (notion entendue ici comme non ethnocentrée) et la raison.
