Organe de l’American Colonization Society (1817-1964). Absorbe “Christian Statesman” et “Colonization Herald” en 1839. L’American Colonization Society fut fondée pour encourager les esclaves noirs affranchis à quitter les États-Unis et occuper le Liberia. Elle réunit aussi bien des cercles abolitionnistes qu’esclavagistes du fait de son objectif d’évacuer ces populations. Sa revue fut un organe de propagande destiné à soutenir cette mission à travers d’articles sur l’Afrique, d’informations sur les migrants et de textes sur la prospérité de la colonie.
