Revue clé de la "Renaissance bengali". Première revue littéraire mensuelle publiée en bengali, fondée par le romancier, journaliste et poète bengali Bankim Chandra Chaterjee. Bien que conservateur, ses œuvres, écrites en anglais et en bengali inspireront les nationalistes dans leurs luttes pour l'indépendance. Elle cesse d'être publiée entre 1875 et 1901 date à laquelle Rabindranath Tagore en reprend la publication jusqu'en 1906.
